A Moth Trapping and Identification morning was held on June 24th led by expert Julian Francis from Dorset Moths https://dorsetmoths.co.uk/. Three light traps had been sited in different arts of the churchyard overnight and caught a magnificent tally of 198 night-flying moths comprising 65 species.

Visitors were captivated by some particularly striking specimens found resting on egg cartons stacked in the traps as refuge sites. The most common species was the garden grass-venier (21 caught); notables included privet and elephant hawk-moths. The results will be sent on to the Dorset Environmental Records Centre and Butterfly Conservation.
